Sept 1 End of Summer

Now is the time your trees weaknesses will show.
If leaves are brown or wilting you may have over watered or underwatered. The signs are very similar. Spots can mean your tree is diseased or has bugs. Trees can be trimmed in summer but you need someone who knows how to trim properly. Contact me and I can take a look. Now until November is time the ideal time to think about planting new trees.

October Trick or Treat

Fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs. May be a little late for vegetables. Planting in the fall helps avoid "transplant shock." Planting in the fall will give plants time to set down a good root system. Then in the spring they'll begin to grow roots again before it gets hot.

Its bound to get cold soon. So don't prune too much of the branches. After the leaves fall you can look for damage or structural issues. If the weather is warm you can still fertilize your tree as they will still take up water. Also, this is the last month to fertilize fruit trees. I recommend Feb, May, Aug and Oct.

Enjoy the fall weather and let me know if I can help care for your trees.

Transplant Palms and Citrus Care

August is a good time to transplant your Palm Trees and Bermuda Grass. The soil temp is warm and the root systems will thrive. Don't forget to stake them down-protect them from the wind.. Your other plants will have to wait for cooler weather to be moved.

It might be time to start thinking about fertilizer. Really now through October is a good time to fetilize trees. I suggest you fertilize 3 times a year. Once in the early spring (Feb), then in Spring (May) and then again in the fall (aug-Oct). Apply Nitrogen to your fall ripening trees (oranges and tangerines).

August is a great time to plant one more crop of quick growing vegetables like radishes.
Enjoy the summer.

Pruning Native Trees in August

Be careful pruning native trees like Mesquite and Palo Verde.
The trees are heaving with foliage for a reason. The western sun is very hot this time of year and can burn exposed bark. I recommend taking 30% of the foliage this time of year. If you have questions or need help with your trees, give me a call at
